MERS ranked No. 192 in Pensions & Investments Magazine's annual plan sponsor survey
February 08, 2013 - 

The Municipal Employees' Retirement System (MERS) of Michigan was recently named to the Top 200 U.S. Plan Sponsors list by Pensions & Investments. MERS enters the list at No. 192, with $7.623 billion in assets as of Sept. 30, 2012. This is the first time MERS has been named to the Top 200, which is part of the publication's annual Top 1000 List, surveying the assets of America's leading plan sponsors.

MERS replacing six funds, and adding two others to lineup

As part of our ongoing fiduciary responsibility, the MERS Investment Menu is continually monitored for issues such as performance, overlap and for the optimal number of fund options. In conducting this regular review, we determined that six funds either underperformed on a long-term basis, or overlapped with existing funds in the investment lineup.

Eases the transition from Defined Benefit to Defined Contribution
January 28, 2013 - 

To help our member municipalities ease the transition from a defined benefit plan to defined contribution for new hires, at its January meeting the MERS Retirement Board voted to lessen the funding requirement.
